Regulatory Requirements

  • 3DS: Recommended but not mandated by regulation. Networks (Visa, MC) may mandate on high-risk transactions.
  • KYC/AML: BACEN (Central Bank) requires CPF/CNPJ for all electronic payments. PIX transactions require tax ID for sender and receiver.
  • Transaction Limits: PIX: configurable per institution (typical default R$1,000 nocturnal limit for individuals). Boleto: no regulatory cap but issuer limits apply.
  • Data Residency: LGPD (Lei Geral de Protecao de Dados) applies. Personal data of Brazilian residents must follow LGPD consent and processing rules.
  • Installments: Credit cards support 2-12 installments (issuer-dependent). Interest-free installments require merchant agreement.

  • 3DS: Not mandated by regulation. Recommended for cross-border and high-value transactions.
  • KYC/AML: CNBV (banking commission) requires RFC for high-value transactions. LFPIORPI applies to transactions above ~MXN $50,000.
  • Transaction Limits: OXXO: MXN $10,000 per voucher. SPEI: no regulatory cap for authenticated transfers.
  • Data Residency: LFPDPPP (Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data) applies.
